In Coppet live Madame de Stael and Benjamin Constant. In Coppet lives Sybille, a rebellious teenager protesting against her very bourgeois, too Suisse, too moralising father. In order to free herself from the social constraints within her family the young lady writes a bold novel. ?N?a? is just like the erotic books she stole from a bookinist she's friends with, books she devours at night... Emmanuelle Arsan, whose novel was the basis for this film, is popular rather for her ?Emmanuelle?. Obviously, Nelly Kaplan has largely revised this voluptuous nine days' wonder: a love story, a woman's look on the men's world, a feminist and liberal film through and through. ?Kaplan's got something acrobatic about her. She knows how to heal with humour, her film is relaxing. The gestures and looks in this film last just long enough to count. The exact opposite of such aggressive and brutal cinema that exhausts and wears out the spectators.
