In the state of Judea in southern Africa, violence, poverty and sectarianism are endemic. The neighboring Alliance has invaded to restore ?peace? at gunpoint. Promises of democracy accompany summary executions and brutal massacres. As civil war rages on, a divine child is born. As he grows and witnesses the inhumanity of the world, his angelic guardians offer him an escape to the heavens. But he refuses. This is his world and he must try to save it. Inevitably, though, he attracts the attention of the Judean tribal leaders who have struck a power-sharing deal with the aloof Governor Pilate. Traditional African dance, songs and rhythms infuse this film with life, spirit and a genuinely profound voice.

Mark Dornford-May ist seit Anfang der 80er Jahre als Theater- und Opernregisseur t?tig. Er leitete diverse Produktionen (u.a. am Crucible in Sheffield, dem Gate Theatre in Notting Hill und dem Playhouse in Oxford) und ist Mitbegr?nder der Broomhill Opera. Seit 2000 lebt Dornford-May in S?dafrika, wo er die Schauspielgruppe Dimpho Di Koppane (?Vereinte Talente?) gr?ndete und bis heute leitet. Sein Spielfilmdeb?t ?U-Carmen e-Khayelitsha? wurde 2005 bei den 55. Internationalen Filmfestspielen in Berlin mit dem Goldenen B?ren ausgezeichnet. ?Son of Man? ist Dornford-Mays zweite Arbeit als Drehbuchautor und Regisseur.
